The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE features an expansive 6.7-inch display and a larger battery to enhance performance. This model introduces the ProVisual engine to the FE series.
Notably, there are no regional variations in chipsets this year; the S24 FE is equipped with the Exynos 2400e. While specifics were not disclosed, it’s expected that the prime Cortex-X4 core operates at a lower clock speed.
While peak performance may be affected, sustained performance is set to improve significantly thanks to a new vapor chamber that’s 1.1 times larger than its predecessor. The S24 FE skips the Exynos 2300, using a mix of Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 from last year, leading to a substantial performance upgrade over the S23 FE.
Samsung has equipped the S24 FE with 8GB of RAM, matching the vanilla Galaxy S24. It offers storage options of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. The RAM capacity does not impact the phone’s capability to run Galaxy AI, which will be discussed later.
The Galaxy S24 FE features a 6.7-inch display, 0.3 inches larger than its predecessor, making it comparable to the S24+, though it utilizes an FHD+ OLED panel rather than a QHD+ LTPO. This model serves as a more affordable alternative to the plus variant. The display supports refresh rates of 120Hz or 60Hz and includes Vision Booster for optimal visibility in bright conditions.
Additionally, Samsung has introduced the ProVisual engine from its flagship series to the FE line, combining Nightography—an AI ISP that enhances low-light photography—with an object-aware engine that optimizes colors in Super HDR. The system also provides an optical-quality 2x zoom for enhanced image clarity.
The camera system features a 50MP main sensor (f/1.8) that delivers impressive performance. For added versatility, there’s a 3x 8MP telephoto lens (f/2.4) for zooming in, or you can capture wider shots with the 12MP ultra-wide lens (f/2.2) with a 123° field of view. The selfie camera is equipped with a 10MP sensor. This setup mirrors last year’s hardware but benefits from increased processing power and the enhancements provided by the ProVisual engine.
The Galaxy S24 FE features a larger 4,700mAh battery, an increase of 200mAh compared to the S23 FE. However, charging speeds remain unchanged at 25W wired (0-50% in 30 minutes) and 15W wireless.
In terms of dimensions, the S24 FE measures 162.0 x 77.3 x 8.0mm and weighs 213g—4mm taller, slightly wider, and just a bit thinner than its predecessor, while gaining 4g. The Galaxy S24+ is narrower due to slimmer bezels and is 17g lighter, yet it has a battery capacity of 200mAh more.
Connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax), and Bluetooth 5.3. The device retains an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, allowing it to withstand submersion in 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes.
Launching with Android 14 and OneUI 6.1, the Galaxy S24 FE may not have the best timing as Android 15 approaches. However, it will receive the flagship treatment with updates for seven OS generations and security patches for seven years.
The AI features of the Galaxy S24 FE include familiar Galaxy AI options. Circle to Search allows users to look up information on Google by long-pressing the home button and circling the item of interest. Live Translate offers voice translation during calls and is now supported in select third-party apps. Interpreter facilitates in-person translation, while Composer assists with writing emails and social media posts based on a few keywords. Additionally, Note Assist automates note formatting, transcribes and summarizes voice recordings, and can translate PDFs
The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is available for pre-order starting today, with official sales beginning on October 3. The base model is priced at $650, but the 512GB storage option may not be offered in all regions.
