A few months ago, Ice Universe reported that the upcoming Xiaomi 15 Ultra will feature a remarkable 200MP telephoto camera. Recent updates from Weibo tipsters have shed more light on this exclusive camera, revealing that the standard and Pro versions of the Xiaomi 15 series will be limited to 50MP 3x cameras.
The Ultra’s telephoto lens will boast a 100mm focal length, which translates to approximately 4.3x magnification, and it will have an f/2.6 aperture. This represents a shift from the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, which had a 50MP periscope lens with a 120mm focal length (5x) and an f/2.5 aperture. The addition of the 200MP module is expected to elevate the photography capabilities of the Ultra significantly.
Interestingly, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will feature two telephoto cameras: the standout 200MP module and the same 50MP 3x module found in the other two models of the series. This dual-camera setup allows for greater versatility in capturing images at different magnifications.
All three models in the lineup will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (or 8 Elite, depending on the final naming), which is expected to deliver improved image processing performance thanks to its advanced ISP and NPU.
As for the release schedule, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is anticipated to be unveiled at a separate event from the other Xiaomi 15 models, following the pattern established with the previous generation. However, this time, the gap will be shorter, with the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro expected to launch later this month and the 15 Ultra likely making its debut in January instead of February. This approach aims to maintain excitement and anticipation for the Ultra model.
