What to Expect from Apple’s ‘Mac’ Launch Event in October

Apple’s is expected to hold another product launch event by the end of October. Unlike the iPhone-centric “It’s Glowtime” event, this one will focus on Macs, particularly those powered by the Apple Silicon M4. Rumors suggest we’ll see updates to the iMac, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and more. Additionally, Apple might introduce a long-awaited refresh of the iPad mini.

Here’s what we know so far about the products Apple may reveal at the October event:

MacBook Pro M4

One of Apple’s worst-kept secrets in recent times is a product that has been revealed before its official announcement. The upcoming MacBook Pro models are expected to closely resemble the current ones, available in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. Both versions will likely feature M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chips. Rumors suggest that the entry-level MacBook Pro with the M4 chip may come with 16 GB of RAM, double the amount found in the previous model.

The base model of the M3 MacBook Pro (review) faced criticism for offering only 8 GB of RAM, especially given its price of over Rs 1,50,000. Apple is expected to address this with the latest version. In addition, the M4 MacBooks are rumored to include an extra Thunderbolt USB-C port on the right side, along with two on the left, providing users with more connectivity options.

Mac mini M4

Apple’s Mac mini was among the first computers to feature Apple Silicon. However, its design has remained the same for over a decade. The next-generation M4-powered Mac mini is reportedly set to undergo a design overhaul, featuring a thinner chassis and eliminating USB-A ports for a more modern look, according to Bloomberg. Expected to come with M4 and M4 Pro chips, the Mac mini M4 is likely to be the most affordable Mac featuring the latest generation of Apple Silicon. Similar to the MacBook Pro, the base model is said to come with 16 GB of RAM.

iMac M4

Apple is anticipated to upgrade the iMac with the new chip and increased memory while keeping design and form factor changes to a minimum. However, the accessories that come with the iMac M4 may feature a refreshed Magic keyboard, mouse, and trackpad. Similar to its predecessor, the iMac M4 is expected to offer multiple color options.

iPad mini with A18

At Apple’s October event, we may see at least one new iPad model—the iPad mini. It’s expected to be powered by the A18 chip with 8 GB of RAM, the same chip that powers the iPhone 16, enabling Apple Intelligence. Additionally, the iPad mini, Apple’s smallest tablet, is anticipated to support the new Apple Pencil Pro, which is currently compatible with the latest iPad Air and iPad Pro models. We could also see an increase in the storage of the base variant from 64 GB to 128 GB.
