Apple TV+ is set to join Amazon Prime Video’s array of add-on subscription options in the United States, a move expected to enhance Prime Video’s offerings and broaden Apple TV+’s audience. Starting later in October, Prime members will have access to Apple TV+ for $9.99 per month, as announced in a press release on October 9.
The two companies also intend to roll out this subscription option in more regions in the future. Mike Hopkins, senior vice president and head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, expressed pride in incorporating Apple TV+ into Prime Video, highlighting the service’s acclaimed shows and films as a way to enhance the personalized streaming experience within a single app.
Eddy Cue, senior vice president of services at Apple, emphasized their goal of making Apple TV+—with its award-winning library—accessible to a wider audience. With this collaboration, Apple TV+ will join over 100 other add-on subscriptions available to Prime members in the U.S.
This integration allows customers to manage their streaming preferences and billing through one platform, and they have the flexibility to cancel any add-on subscriptions whenever they choose.
According to a report from PYMNTS and LendingClub, consumers continue to indulge in streaming services even when finances are tight. Among those living paycheck to paycheck, 29% described their spending on streaming as a luxury, making it a common discretionary expense.
Streaming services are also attracting advertisers; recent reports indicate that Amazon has exceeded its $1.8 billion target in ad spending commitments for its video streaming services following the introduction of ads on Prime Video earlier this year.
