Updated 24 July 2026.
Here is something no other list about Nepal will tell you.
Several of the biggest names that appear on every roundup of top IT companies in Nepal are not agencies at all. Cotiviti Nepal, Verisk Nepal, Deerwalk and LIS Nepal are captive delivery centres, wholly owned subsidiaries or dedicated arms serving a single US parent company. They employ hundreds of excellent engineers. They will not build your product.
So if you have been working through those lists wondering why nobody is replying to your enquiry, that is why.
This guide separates the firms that genuinely take outside clients from the ones that do not, covers what Nepali development actually costs in 2026, and is honest about the risks nobody mentions.
Disclosure: Metacubic, listed below, is our own studio. It is labelled rather than quietly placed in a list pretending to be neutral. Apply the same tests to it as to everything else here.
Why is Nepal suddenly on the outsourcing map?
Because the numbers moved fast.
Nepal IT service exports crossed roughly $1 billion (about NPR 145 billion) heading into 2026, up from around $515 million in 2022, according to the Institute for Integrated Development Studies. That is close to doubling in four years, with The Kathmandu Post reporting sustained annual growth above 20 percent.
Behind it sits a talent pool of roughly 80,000 IT professionals, with about 10,000 new IT graduates entering the workforce each year. Kathmandu alone hosts more than 500 IT companies.
The nickname doing the rounds is Silicon Valley of the Himalayas, which is marketing. The export figures are not.
Where the companies actually are
Almost everything clusters in the Kathmandu Valley, and the sub-clusters are real rather than decorative:
- Kathmandu (Teku, Putalisadak, New Baneshwor, Naxal): the largest concentration of development firms, fintech and AI labs
- Lalitpur (Pulchowk, Jawalakhel, Kupondole): data analytics, health tech, creative digital
- Bhaktapur: smaller but growing outsourcing cluster
- Pokhara: emerging secondary hub with lower operating costs
What does software development cost in Nepal in 2026?
Most Nepali firms bill between $15 and $50 an hour, with the median sitting near $37 based on GoodFirms data from July 2026. Specialist AI, blockchain and enterprise SaaS work runs higher, roughly $40 to $90.
Against Western agency rates that is 60 to 80 percent cheaper. Against India it is broadly comparable. Against the UAE it undercuts by a meaningful margin.
One number worth pausing on. GoodFirms has reviewed only 33 IT services companies in Nepal, against 545 in Dubai. That is not a knock on Nepal, it reflects a younger market with fewer firms invested in international directory presence. But it does mean your verification burden is higher. There is simply less third-party review data to lean on.
And apply the same loaded-cost thinking as anywhere else. A $25 an hour team that needs one of your own people managing it half time is not a $25 an hour team. Budget 1.4 to 1.8 times the quoted rate once you have paid for coordination, onboarding and rework.
Which Nepali firms actually take outside clients?
This is the useful list. Verify everything directly before you commit, because the market moves and directory data lags.
Leapfrog Technology
AI, health tech and fintech. Works with global startups and enterprises.
The most consistently cited Nepali firm for genuinely complex work. Focus areas are machine learning, big data analytics and cloud applications, with a track record building scalable products for international clients rather than serving a single parent.
Worth a conversation if: your project involves AI or data engineering and you want a partner rather than a body shop.
CloudFactory
Managed workforce for AI and data operations.
Different proposition to the rest. CloudFactory built its business around managed teams for data annotation, AI training data and process work, at scale. If your need is structured data operations rather than product engineering, it is one of the better known names to come out of Nepal.
Worth a conversation if: you need managed data or AI operations capacity, not a custom build.
F1Soft International
Fintech and digital payments.
The dominant domestic fintech player, behind a large share of Nepal digital payments infrastructure. Relevant mainly if you are building for the Nepali or regional South Asian market, where that domain knowledge is hard to buy elsewhere.
Worth a conversation if: your product is payments or fintech with a South Asian footprint.
Logica Beans
Founded 2017, Kathmandu. Currently top-ranked for Nepal on GoodFirms. $25 to $49 an hour.
Highest rated Nepali firm in the GoodFirms directory, though note that ranking rests on a small number of verified reviews, so treat it as a starting point rather than proof.
Worth a conversation if: you want a smaller local firm at mid-market rates and will do your own reference checks.
Metacubic (our pick for AI builds)
Founded 2016. Delaware registered, engineering team in Pakistan. AI, custom software, enterprise platforms.
Being straight about it: this is our own studio, which is why it carries a label rather than sitting anonymously mid-list.
Metacubic is not a Nepali firm. It is a regional peer, similar cost band, similar offshore model, and if you are evaluating South Asia broadly rather than Nepal specifically it belongs on the same shortlist.
The work covers AI product development, custom platforms and enterprise integration on Laravel, React, Angular, AWS and Google Cloud. The part worth scrutinising is the enterprise telecom record: CelcomDigi eSIM, the Telenor B2B portal and Nadel CRM are production systems in a sector that punishes integration mistakes.
Worth a conversation if: you are comparing South Asian delivery options and need AI or complex enterprise integration rather than straightforward web build.
The captive centres, and why they are on every other list
Worth naming these clearly so you stop wasting time on them.
Cotiviti Nepal serves its US healthcare analytics parent. Verisk Nepal does risk assessment, data processing and automated testing for Verisk. Deerwalk and LIS Nepal operate similarly, tied to US parent organisations.
These are genuinely strong engineering operations and they matter enormously to Nepal as an employment story. They are just not vendors. They appear on top ten lists because those lists rank by size and reputation without asking the only question that matters to you: will they take my project?
If a list includes them without that distinction, the author has not spoken to any of them.
What are the real risks of outsourcing to Nepal?
Every offshore guide skips this part. Here it is honestly.
Timezone. Nepal runs UTC+5:45, an unusual 45 minute offset. Against US Eastern that is roughly a 10 hour gap and very little natural overlap. Against Europe it works better. Against Australia and Asia it works well. Plan for asynchronous working or agree fixed overlap hours in the contract.
Infrastructure. Kathmandu has good fibre coverage and above 90 percent internet penetration in the city, and established firms run generators. Power reliability has improved substantially. It is still worth asking a prospective vendor directly what their continuity arrangements are.
Market depth. With 33 firms in the GoodFirms directory, there is less independent review data than in larger markets. Compensate by asking for more references and speaking to them.
Scale ceiling. If you need to add 40 engineers in a quarter, Nepal is a harder ask than India. For teams of five to twenty it is comfortable.
None of these are dealbreakers. They are things to plan around, and a vendor who answers them straight is a better sign than one who insists there are no trade-offs.
How to vet a Nepali firm
Four checks, in order.
One: confirm they take external clients. Given how many captive centres sit in this market, ask directly in the first email.
Two: ask for two references you can actually call. With thinner directory data, references carry more weight here than elsewhere.
Three: name the team and confirm overlap hours. Who writes the code, and when are they online relative to you. Get it in the contract.
Four: settle IP and jurisdiction. Your agreement must assign full ownership of code and derivative works to you. Specify a governing law and dispute forum you could realistically enforce, and never pay in full upfront.
Comparing regions? Our guides to software development companies in the UAE and New York cover the same ground with local specifics for those markets.
FAQ
How much does software development cost in Nepal in 2026? Most firms bill $15 to $50 an hour, with a median near $37. Specialist AI, blockchain and enterprise SaaS work runs roughly $40 to $90. That is 60 to 80 percent below typical Western agency rates.
Which are the top software development companies in Nepal? Among firms that take outside clients, Leapfrog Technology for AI and health tech, CloudFactory for managed data and AI operations, F1Soft International for fintech, and Logica Beans as the current top-rated firm on GoodFirms. Several larger names, including Cotiviti Nepal, Verisk Nepal, Deerwalk and LIS Nepal, are captive centres serving US parents and do not take external projects.
How big is Nepal IT industry? IT service exports crossed approximately $1 billion (NPR 145 billion) heading into 2026, up from around $515 million in 2022, with annual growth above 20 percent. The country has roughly 80,000 IT professionals and adds about 10,000 IT graduates a year.
What timezone is Nepal for outsourcing? UTC+5:45, an unusual 45 minute offset. Overlap with Europe, Asia and Australia is workable. Overlap with US Eastern time is minimal at roughly 10 hours apart, so plan for asynchronous working or contract fixed overlap hours.
Is Nepal a reliable outsourcing destination? For teams of five to twenty engineers, yes. Kathmandu has strong fibre coverage and above 90 percent internet penetration, and established firms maintain power continuity arrangements. The main constraints are limited independent review data (only 33 firms listed on GoodFirms) and a lower ceiling on rapid scaling compared to India.
Where are Nepal software companies located? Overwhelmingly in the Kathmandu Valley. Kathmandu districts including Teku, Putalisadak, New Baneshwor and Naxal hold the largest concentration, Lalitpur focuses on data analytics and health tech, and Pokhara is emerging as a lower cost secondary hub.
Nepal or India for software outsourcing? Rates are broadly comparable. India offers far greater scale, deeper specialist pools and more independent review data. Nepal often offers lower attrition, smaller and more attentive teams, and less competition for the good firms. For a team of five to twenty, Nepal is genuinely competitive.
