Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has addressed rumors about artificial intelligence (AI) expediting the development of GTA. In an interview with CNBC, Zelnick clarified that while AI tools can enhance efficiency in game creation, they are unlikely to significantly shorten the production timeline.
According to Zelnick, AI has long been a part of the interactive entertainment industry, primarily aiding developers in streamlining repetitive tasks. “Our tools make us more efficient and allow creative teams to focus on innovation rather than mundane work,” he said. However, he emphasized that creating blockbuster games like GTA 6 remains a complex and time-intensive process that AI cannot drastically accelerate.
Fans have eagerly awaited GTA 6 for nearly a decade, frequently dissecting updates and teasers from GTA Online for hints about the new game. Although Rockstar recently confirmed a 2025 release window, the specific launch date has yet to be revealed. The excitement reached new heights with the release of the game’s first trailer, showcasing detailed interiors and environmental elements that many speculate involve advanced AI for non-playable characters (NPCs) and intricate locations.
Despite external challenges, including actor strikes and global health disruptions, Take-Two remains committed to delivering the game on schedule. Zelnick’s comments suggest that while AI plays a supportive role in game development, it is not a revolutionary factor in reducing production time.
The anticipation for GTA 6 continues to grow, with fans analyzing every bit of new information. Take-Two’s focus remains on maintaining the franchise’s legacy by ensuring high-quality content, rather than rushing development with emerging technologies.
